Hisense to commence mass-production of 150-inch laser TVs…

…and Universal Display launches $75,000 Sherwin I. Seligsohn Award in Organic Electronics.

Enitled “Light of The Future”, the 2024 Laser Display Technology and Industry Development Conference took place in Qingdao, China on September 19th. Besides exhibiting achievements in laser display technologies, the conference explored novel ideas for their development including different scenarios, products, technologies, and industries for the next decade.

During the conference, China-based home appliance and consumer electronics developer Hisense announced that its 150-inch Laser TV is set to be mass-produced. The company stated that “consumption of 100-inch TVs has multiplied exponentially in recent years, with Laser TVs one of the biggest driving forces.”

Dennys Li, President of Hisense Visual Technology, said, “over the years Laser TVs have promoted the popularity of large screens among consumers in realizing the wide variety of innovative designs, such as rollable and lifting screens. Hisense will cooperate with industry partners in the advancement of screen technology to expand consumers’ viewing experiences.”

‘Light of The Future’

The company stated that “the rich scene adaptability of Hisense Laser display is set to penetrate ever more segmented fields. Advances include more professional gaming displays, new light and shadow artistic creation methods, enhanced cultural tourism displays, and entry to the field of professional film production.”

Its Laser Display Technology conference announcement added, “The volume of the Laser TV host can even be greatly reduced to a size close to that of an iPad, potentially achieving complete invisibility through integration with home furnishings. Beyond that, the future of laser display will offer more AI interaction, more energy-saving, and is increasingly environmentally friendly.”

Hisense also stated, “in recent years laser display products have gained greater market recognition and have received high praise from industry media with their excellent performance. Global shipment market share of Hisense Laser TVs is up to 58.4%, ranking [the company] as first in the world.”

At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, US, Hisense’s In-Vehicle Projection System won the CES 2024 Innovation Award. And at IFA, earlier in September, in Berlin, Germany, Hisense Laser TV’s lineup of 100-inch giant screens made their debut, and winning the Gold Award for Large Screen Display Technology.

The company concluded, “With the trend of large screens gradually becoming the new mainstream, the 150-inch Hisense Laser TV will further satisfy consumption demand for big-screen laser TVs. Through our commitment to ‘User-centric Technology’ and ‘Ultimate Quality’, Hisense will continue to put consumers at the center, strengthening connections with more users globally, and providing full-scenario home living experiences that exceed expectations.”

Universal Display launches Sherwin Seligsohn Award in Organic Electronics

Universal Display Corp., which enables energy-efficient displays and lighting with its UniversalPHOLED® technologies and materials, has set up the Sherwin I. Seligsohn Innovation Award in honor of the firm’s late founder. With this award-competition, UDC says it intends “to support innovation in the vibrant global scientific community and recognize groundbreaking advancements in organic electronics.”

UDC’s EVP and Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Julie Brown, officially opened the competition for submissions with a presentation on September 19th during a special symposium at Princeton University in honor of Seligsohn. During her remarks, Dr. Brown also detailed that the theme of the 2025 competition is “organic photovoltaics”.

• Submissions: The award is open to individuals and teams from around the world. Submissions may constitute published or unpublished work in organic electronics and include both experimental and theoretical results or combinations of both.
