IMRA and Crystal Fibre sign license agreement for fibre development

23 Jan 2009

Ann Arbor, US, and Birkerod, Denmark, January 23, 2009 - IMRA America, Inc. (IMRA), a world leader in the research, development, manufacturing and application of ultrafast fibre lasers, and Crystal Fibre A/S - part of NKT Photonics, a world leader in the design and manufacture of specialty fibre for industrial and scientific markets, have signed a license agreement for IMRA fibre technology.

The technology enables Crystal Fibre to further expand its product offerings in the field of fibres and fibre components.

In the agreement, IMRA licenses and provides CRYSTAL FIBRE with the freedom to use a large portfolio of IMRA patents related to fibre components and lasers. IMRA is also open to licensing users of CRYSTAL FIBRE products seeking to develop and market multimode fibre lasers with single mode output as described in the key IMRA patent, US 5,818,630.

Mr. Jakob Skov, CEO of Crystal Fibre: "We are a world-class leader in large mode area fibres for high power laser systems and this license agreement with IMRA allows us to provide simple interfacing from standard industrial components to single-mode photonic crystal fibre technology. To our customers, this agreement means that they now have access to fully fibre integrated systems operating at high power with unprecedented beam quality and stability, thereby supporting their need for robust industrial solutions."

Mr. Takashi Omitsu, President of IMRA, added: "Over the past 15 years, IMRA has made an enormous investment in fibre amplifier and fibre laser research, leading the industry in developing the technology required for generation and amplification of very short laser light pulses with excellent beam quality. As the international fibre laser community recognizes the importance of intellectual property licensing, IMRA is continuing to advance the state of this art for the benefit of both manufacturers and users of fibre products. We welcome CRYSTAL FIBRE, a key member of this community, as an IMRA licensee."
