Excelitas acquires Silicon Power's SolidTRON range

06 Oct 2020

To expand defense and aerospace offering with solid-state discrete firing switches.

Excelitas Technologies, a photonics solutions developer, has completed the purchase of the SolidTRON range from Silicon Power, Malvern, PA, USA. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The addition of SolidTRON expands Excelitas’ defense and aerospace range of technologies to include solid-state discrete firing switches and pulsed power products.

SolidTRON will operate as a separate product line within Excelitas’ Advanced Electronic Systems business unit. After the acquisition, the SolidTRON team will continue operating from its current 18,800 square-foot facility in Malvern, PA.

Doug Benner, Excelitas’s Executive VP, Defense and Aerospace, commented, “This strategic acquisition ensures critical supply chain stability for our Energetic Systems business. It will further enable us to address a broader scope of energetics and advanced electronics applications across the defense, aerospace and commercial sectors.”

SolidTRON is the seventh and latest acquisition completed by Excelitas since its foundation in 2010 and the third acquisition since Excelitas was purchased by AEA Investors in December 2017.

Excelitas expands Qioptiq mag.x system 125 with autofocus

Excelitas has also announced that it is expanding its modular Qioptiq mag.x system 125 with the addition of built-in autofocus components. The autofocus capability creates an automated, industrial microscope system for display, PCB, OLED/TFT, wafer and glass inspection, as well as for high-precision, non-contact measuring applications in the machine vision, semiconductor and quality control industries.

The mag.x system 125 is designed for use with large sensors (up to 57 mm diagonal) to enable sub-micrometer resolution over large object fields. This unmatched optical performance is achieved with high numerical aperture lenses that feature an exceptionally large exit pupil.

Focusing in an automated environment is simplified by the mag.x system 125 modular, integrated new autofocus solution. Two actuators enable highly-precise focusing in a fraction of a second. The AF base unit couples the laser from an autofocus sensor into the beam path.

The autofocus sensor and the actuator constitute a closed-loop system that ensures optimum focus in the object plane. Since no stitching is needed, high-resolution sensors can be used to create significantly shorter tact times without compromising the resolution of the inspection system.

Ina Neumann, Excelitas’ Application Engineer, said, “Exact focusing is essential when using very high-resolution microscopy. The new integrated autofocus function offered in our mag.x system 125 provides the precision that is needed in a continuous workflow of an automated environment with a high degree of detailed accuracy.”
