| Light bulbs based on LED chips are already available in stores such as Home Depot, but are much more expensive than conventional lights. By growing the light-emitting semiconductor material on a large-area silicon substrate, both Azzurro and Lattice Power expect to significantly reduce the cost of the technology, potentially opening up a much larger solid-state market.
